About Las Vegas.

Las Vegas is one of the fastest growing cities in the United States. Clark County’s population has reached 1.6 million.

Located in Clark County, Las Vegas is referred to as "The Jewel of the Desert." Attracting millions of visitors each year, Las Vegas boasts that the nation’s ten largest hotels are located here. While our glittering city enjoys the benefits of tourism, other industries have sprung up throughout the valley as a result of the growth explosion, including real estate, retail, manufacturing, distributorships, banking, computer software and technology companies, and many more.

Las Vegas is the center for various cultural organizations, among them the Nevada Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Symphony, the Opera Theatre, the Desert Chorale and the Las Vegas Civic Ballet. Local outdoor recreation attractions include Mount Charleston, Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, and Red Rock Canyon. Las Vegas is just a few hours’ drive from the Grand Canyon, Death Valley, and great skiing in Utah. With over 60 golf courses, Clark County has become the golfing Mecca of the West. Citizens of Las Vegas also enjoy several local parks and museums, public libraries, and cultural centers.

Clark County has over 275 public schools and nearly 30 licensed private schools. On a 335-acre campus in the heart of the city is The University of Nevada, Las Vegas. UNLV offers a complete range of academic as well as continuing education programs. The institution is also home of the University of Nevada School of Medicine, the William S. Boyd School of Law, and the Graduate School of Education.

Jobs are plentiful, thanks to a booming local economy and a pro-business environment in which companies do not pay corporate income, franchise, inventory, or unitary taxes. The cost of living in Las Vegas is lower than in other comparable U.S. cities, in part because of the absence of any personal income tax. The people are friendly, the climate is healthy, and there’s something enjoyable to do every night of the week.

The median household income in 2003 was $44,307. Clark County welcomed 50,000 newcomers into the valley last year, including Las Vegas area proper and surrounding communities like Summerlin, where the Alexander Dawson School at Rainbow Mountain is located at 10845 West Desert Inn Road.

The Alexander Dawson School is a proud member of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce. We encourage you to visit their website, www.lvchamber.com, for more details about the Las Vegas community and for relocation information.

Parents and their children find Las Vegas both rewarding and exciting. Most agree they enjoy a higher standard of living here.
